The government has introduced reforms in a bid to improve the well being of citizens and help transform the economy, said President Sahle-work Zewdie. While opening the Conference entitled ‘Africa Day’, organized by European Investment Bank and UNIDO, President Sahle-work underscored that the various reforms undertaken by the government of Ethiopia have been vision driven and oriented by national unity and regional integration. “Ethiopia is currently going through numerous reforms. The reforms are not limited only on the transfer of power to a new government but also the new government has embarked on economic and political reforms that have given hopes to the citizens and beyond. “ The president also emphasized the commitment of the government to meet its vision of making the country as manufacturing hub by 2025. “Ethiopia’s industrialization approach includes developing specialized industrial parks, maintaining social and environmental sustainability, building vertically integrated industries, and enhancing skills development – and achieving all these through strong collaboration with the private sector including global players in the value chain. “

Her Excellency President Sahle-work Zewdie and Mr Paul Polman, CEO of Unilever, discussed the positive development and growth of Unilever Manufacturing Ethiopia. Mr.Paul Polman praised the positive support received from the Ethiopian Government, which has helped to ensure in just three years the company has created 1,000 jobs and that most Unilever products sold on the markets that were formerly imported are now produced locally. During the discussion, they pledged to continue cooperation and discussed measures that will further accelerate such development, create jobs throughout the supply chain and promote social development. This includes driving health and hygiene through partnerships such as the Global Hand washing Day where Lifebuoy soap recently promoted good hygiene practice to 50 million Ethiopians. They also discussed the critical importance of sustainable development and agreed to continue the existing collaboration between the Government of Ethiopia and Unilever and to deliver the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

H.E. President Sahle-Work Zewdie met with President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh of Djibouti and Foreign ministers of Tanzania and the Comoros today in the National Palace and discussed on bilateral cooperation and partnership. During the discussion President Sahle-Work Zewdie underscored the need to elevate the partnership among African countries to expand Trade and investment so as to meet the demands of the people of the continent. She also emphasized that Ethiopia is very keen to play its role as it is doing her level best by initiating regional integration through common border growth and infrastructure development. President Omar Ghile congratulated President Sahle-work Zewdie for her election as Head of State of the nation before three weeks ago. He appreciated the developments in Ethiopia in all spectrums. ‘I am here to congratulate H.E. the President for her election as Head of State of Ethiopia. Our countries have a good relationship. We work extensively to expand the bilateral relations in the years ahead.’’President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh told the media. President Sahle work also held talks with foreign ministers of Tanzania and the Comoros. While in the discussion President Sahle-Work briefed the ministers about the developments happening in Ethiopia with the aim of ensuring peace and development. The renowned diplomat and eminent personality, Ambassador Sahlework Zewdie, has been nominated as the President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia today in a joint session of the Houses of peoples Representatives and Federation.
As the fourth President of the Republic, Ambassador Sahlework Zewdie sworn in this morning and said that she would do her level best to meet the expectation of the people and the government with loyalty and ardent commitment. She also called up on the nation to uphold peace of the country.
Addressing the joint session, Ambassador Sahlework also underscored the need to be hand in hand to realize a nation free from poverty and backwardness.
The outgoing President Dr.Mulatu Teshome also addressed the parliament saying that he did all what he can to execute his responsibilities.
